Abstract: Over the past three decades the Arab-Israeli conflict was, and continues to be, at the heart of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries’ foreign policies. The Palestine question, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the peace process, started in 1991, have also been, directly and indirectly connected to the security and stability of the Gulf region due to the active involvement of the various parties, particularly the GCC countries, on the one hand, and the multi-dimensional aspects and ramifications for these countries, on the other. The paper argues in 2003 the GCC countries have been actively involved in the search for peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The paper also highlights that the GCC countries have always been forthcoming in their financial contributions to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority. It concludes that unless the Arab-Israeli conflict is resolved, the GCC countries will always be actively involved in the search for a peaceful settlement. Just recently this was reiterated in the final communiqué of the 24th GCC Summit held in Kuwait. |
